FOZZY Guitarist Offers 'Real Story' Behind DELICIOUS ROX FESTIVAL Incident

FOZZY guitarist Rich Ward has posted a message on his official web site offering the "real story" behind his band's abbreviated appearance at the Delicious Rox Festival this past weekend.

According to The Sedalia Democrat, the Delicious Rox Festival 2006, which boasted a bill 19 bands deep and was staged Saturday (Sept. 30) at the Dodge Arena at the Missouri State Fairgrounds in Sedalia, halted just after 10 p.m. Police were called in to help shut the concert down. The show's promoters pulled the plug on the gig because of an insurance stipulation requiring the concert's cancellation in the event a fan sustained an injury.

Says Ward: "I just wanted to make a quick post, giving you the real story of what happened this past Saturday night at the Delicious Rox Festival.

"At around 7:30 p.m. the festival promoter came to our trailer and informed us that the bass player for XXXXXXXX XXXX XXXXXX had thrown a bottle into the crowd, hitting a young girl in the head. He then said that she was a FOZZY fan that got her parents to bring her to the festival and asked if [Chris] Jericho [FOZZY singer] could just say hello to her before she headed to the hospital. Jericho stepped outside, gave her a hug and spoke to her for a few minutes. He looked at the softball that had swelled up on the top of her head and knew that she needed to see a doctor. A couple of minutes later, the bass player from XXX showed up and he proceeded to tell the girl that the bottle wasn't meant for her, that someone in the crowd threw a bottle at him. Chris told the XXX bass player to just say 'you're sorry' and then exchanged some additional words before returning back to the trailer.

"About 45 minutes later, the promoter notified us that there could be a problem and that the festival could be shut down because of a felony assault charge that had been made against the XXX bottle slinger. We went on stage knowing that it could be a short set.

"After three songs into our set, the promoter got my attention and told me that the cops were here and that the festival was over. He and Jericho addressed the crowd together and that was it.

"Did I see him throw the bottle? No. Did I see him admit to throwing the bottle? Yes. As for the promoter, he spoke to me a dozen times over the two hours that all this drama took place and he was very apologetic for the situation. I don't know how he dealt with the other bands on the festival, but he treated us very well and seemed genuine when he continued to say how sorry he was for how things turned out.

"To those of you who were there and especially to those who came long distances (The Netherlands, California, North Carolina) to see the show, thank you for the support, we owe you one."
